Location: Sibiu
Open since: August 2017
Founders: Adrian Muntean & Ciprian Hanea

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The first craft brewery in Sibiu to produce their beers in-house, the idea behind Urban sprung up in 2016. Back then, two friends who had been working in finance and management for 20 years decided to create a brand that would celebrate their native town, as well as it’s brewing culture. Looking back to 2007 and what the title of ‘European Capital of Culture’ meant to Sibiu, and the way the city thrived in its wake, the name of ‘Urban’ was more than fitting, especially if you take into account the ethnic and cultural diversity of the place.

Fast forward to August of 2017, their first beer, an IPA, was already reaching production, with a Dubbel and an Oktoberfest-style Märzen soon to follow. However, as we all know, Romanian bureaucracy is a tedious affair, so it wasn’t until late December that very year that their beers became commercially available.

2018 is definitely the year Urban became a more visible presence on the craft beer scene, both in shops and bars, but also by making an appearance at festivals.

The brewery setup allows for a yearly output of 800 hectoliters, and their bottles are currently available either by 500ml or 300ml bottles. So far, we’ve come across them in specialized pubs and bars around Transylvania, such as Sibiu and Timişoara, but we’re hoping to see them in more locations around the country soon.

Products:

  • Märzen – 5.5% ABV
  • IPA – 6% ABV
  • Dubbel – 6% ABV
  • Helles (with hops from Sighișoara) – 5% ABV
