Location: Piatra Neamț
Open since: December 2016
Tucked away in an idyllic location, on the banks of a river at the foothill of the Carpathian mountains, the town of Piatra Neamț has had a long brewing history. For over a century, Zimca was one of the largest breweries in the county. When the business closed down and the factory itself was razed to the ground in 2008, it seemed that 115 years of brewing tradition in the region would disappear with it.
As luck had it, almost a decade later, the name of Zimca was back on people’s lips, and while the name lives on under a different business and crew, the passion for quality brews and remembering local stories is still very much there.
Turnul Berarilor (or ‘The Brewers’ Tower’) first opened it’s doors to the public at the end of 2016, and has fast become renowned as one of the premier venues in Piatra Neamț. While the focus is largely on the restaurant side of the venue, the tower is home to a stunning brewery, which you can take a good look at while enjoying a meal. Here, a number of house beers are brewed on site. Hosting regular live entertainment and serving great food, it’s well worth a visit.
In June of 2017, they also did an official launch of their own take on the old Zimca beers, which can still be sampled on site today.
We were also very pleased when they made their very first appearance at a craft beer festival in July of 2018, at our Craft Beer Festival in Cluj. Their brewery truck, complete with a draft system as well as cooking facilities, is quite a sight to behold, so here’s hoping to see them taking it for a drive at other craft beer festivals in the future.
