General information:

The head brewer for Bere Sara firmly believes that the best beer in the world is, probably, Carslberg the one you brew yourself. Not only that, but he also dreams of a time where each town and village in Romania will have its own brewery, much like they do in the western world.

Sara started off as a nano-brewery back in 2014, when it was brewed on-site for the Sara Guesthouse in Crivaia, Văliug village. The beer was only meant to be served on the premises, however, due to its increasing popularity in the region, the brewer quickly decided that expanding the operation was in order. Using Czech equipment, Belgian yeast, German barley that they malt themselves and water from a nearby spring, their ales are matured and ready for drinking in 21 days.

In 2019, they relocated to Timișoara, where they also opened a pub, Mayerhoff Brauerei, and also started collaborating with a vineyard that produces a wine range for them, which is bottled at the Sara brewery. The following year, in May 2020, they also expanded their range with Sandro Beer, aiming for a more premium product.

Over the past years, Bere Sara have become available in most of the supermarket chains across the country. This has, unfortunately, caused quite a bit of whiplash from their customers, as well as raised concerns regarding quality. Several reports emerged from consumers regarding beers that had gone sour, or bottles that had exploded due improper storage on the supermarket shelves. The Sandro Beer range did little to redress the brewery’s reputation, and the reviews (particularly for their IPA and the Sandro beers) took a drastic plunge. We can only hope that the brewers have taken notice of this feedback, and that they’re looking to redress the quality of their beers in the future.
